ABSTRACT
Background: The hepatitis C virus has the ability to replicate in lymphoid cells, producing immune alterations that can be seen reflected in multiple extrahepatic manifestations, among these the ocular ones, such as keratitis, scleritis and retinopathies.Clinical case: A 61-year-old male patient with scleritis of 2 months of evolution that did not respond to conventional treatment; this was the only manifestation of a hepatitis C virus infection in a patient in the seventh decade of life, with risk factors for infection by that virus.
Conclusions: Knowledge of manifestations of hepatitis C virus at ophthalmological level may help in the early detection of this infection.
