ABSTRACT
Objective: To assess the hability of three scales for predicting thromboembolic phenomena.Materials and Methods: A study was conducted divided in 2 phases, the first was retrospective, observational, prolective and cross sectional involving hospitalized patients in an intermediate care unit from January to June 2014, to which the Padua and Caprini scales were applied and a new scale (modified HAP) was made. Then a second phase was prospective observational, prolective and cross sectional involving hospitalized patients in an intermediate care unit from April to June 2015, to which the Padua and Caprini scales were applied and again the proposed scale (HAP; Modified Padua).
Results: There were included 297 patients. In relation to 3 scores comparison, we found a favorable outcome in terms of the application of the modified HAP score, validating its use in comparison with the existing scores for inpatients in an intermediate care unit, with a very good predictor of sensitivity and moderate specificity.
Conclusions: The specificity and sensitivity of our modified scale were higher than those of Padua and similar to those of Caprini in terms of the appearance of the disease and, therefore, its prediction, so we can recommend its use in hospitalized patients in a critical area such as the intermediate care unit of a hospital.
