Ventricular structure and function in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

ABSTRACT
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease through multiple pathogenic pathways including insulin resistance, altered lipid metabolism, inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. These mechanisms lead to cardiac remodeling, atherosclerosis, and potentially increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In this short review we address the relationships of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with metabolic syndrome and their impact on imaging and biochemical markers of ventricular function.
