ABSTRACT
Introduction: Postgraduate education must assume the students´ personal experience and at the same time, it must guarantee its enrichment by multiple interactions with the tutor. Besides, the research component demands preparation and systematicity. Objective: To design a methodological strategy for the attention to the research component in the specialist´s formation.
Method: A development research in which diagrams and actions were used to prepare the strategy , was conducted . Interviews were also carried out in a sample of 33 participants, which included tutors and residents of Gi necobstetrics and Inter nal Medicine from Lenin Hospital in Holguín, Cuba.
Results: More than 70% of the residents had positive opinions about their tutor´s commitment to the research component. As negative aspects, knowledge gaps on Research Methodology and poor planning for this activity were detected. The tutors claimed deficient time availability for the research process, the need for pedagogical courses related to this activity and lack of uniformity when evaluating residents. General premises and requirements to be considered were outlined. In addition, a strategy was designed taking into account four stages and two development areas: pedagogical improvement and the resident´s research training, based on the specialits´s criteria for its validation.
Conclusions: Residents and tutors evidenced deficiencies on the attention to the research component during the specialist´s training. The necessity for preparing and organizing this activity was recognized, including the time planning according to the functions of the research tasks.
