ABSTRACT
Introduction: Lymphomas are solid lymphoid cell tumors. They are subdivided
into Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). The case to be
treated is a type of NHL located in the ocular orbit of a patient. Its incidence
in the population increases with age, which makes it possible to appear even
at ages over 80 years.
Case presentation: The case is presented of a 73-year-old female patient
with bilateral exophthalmos. A clinical ocular and systemic examination is
performed. Imaging studies show the tumor in both orbits, larger on the right.
The initial diagnosis was inflammatory pseudotumor of the orbit, confirmed by
a first biopsy. Due to the lack of clinical improvement with steroids, biopsy
was repeated. On this occasion, half of the left orbital mass was taken.
According to the studies carried out by the pathologist, it is a mantle cell
lymphoma (MCL), secondary to the orbit, with a high degree of malignancy.
The histological test for cyclin was crucial for the positive and differential
diagnosis.
Results: Chemotherapy treatment was decided with the CHOP
(cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine and prednisone) therapeutic
scheme. The outcomes were satisfactory, with a current survival of one year
of evolution.
