Sensibility and specificity of the fine needle biopsy for the thyroid gland malignancies

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to establish the sensibility and specificity of the fine needle biopsy for the thyroid gland malignancies, and to evaluate the correlation between the clinical diagnosis and the pathologic diagnosis in the Otolaryngology Department of the “Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez” General Hospital of Mexico City.
The sensibility of the fine needle biopsy for the papillar thyroid carcinoma was of 83% and the specificity was of 92%. In conclusion, the fine needle biopsy is a secure and adequate diagnostic tool for the thyroid carcinomas.
