ABSTRACT
Acute pseudo-obstruction of the colon, known as Ogilvie syndrome, is a rare condition characterized by acute dilation of the colon in the absence of mechanical obstruction. This presentation of intestinal pseudo-occlusion is linked to with several etiologies and a connection with burns and severe patients has been reported; hence, it is important to know this disease and its management. The case of a 39-year-old woman with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hypothyroidism is presented. She went to the emergency room with superficial and deep second and third degree burns on her face, right arm, and circumferential lower extremities, with a 24% extent of burns of the total body surface. After 48 hours of hospitalization, she began with abdominal pain and bloating. X-rays were taken that showed intestinal distention, which was the reason for performing a contrasted abdominal computed tomography. This showed colon distention, without any evidence of mechanical obstruction. She was managed conservatively, with good results.
