ABSTRACT
In high schools, educators show concern for low school achievement, reflected in the areas of reading, mathematics and
science, which will have effects on the degree. Through a survey performed in new students to the degree of medicine,
to know the degree of information and previous guidance on scientific articles in biomedicine and health. Material and
methods: 230 First admission students were surveyed, the variables were: high school model, public or private sector,
availability of means for reading articles, guidance on access to scientific information, participation in publications, information
about the structure of the biomedical article, participation in events related to research. Statistics: Analysis by
means of SPSS package, expressed in averages, DS and non-parametric tests. There were 118 of 2016 and 112 of 2017;
61% came from public institutions, 60% were women, Relevant data: The correct structure of a scientific article in the
biomedical area between both groups was p = 0.9847, with 95% CI; the reading of biomedical articles was P ‹0.0087,
with respect to the orientation of the teacher for the student on access sites for information the test was with P ‹0.0465,
both with significant association. Participation in the writing of a scientific article, with P = 0.9580; the orientation on
the structure of a medical article was P = 0.11228; only 34 (15%) knew scientific medical information sites. The medical
teacher must include training methods for research, selection, reading orientation, critical analysis, discussion, structure
and writing of scientific articles at the undergraduate level, and desirably should transmit it to the preparatory education,
also considering optional subjects.
