ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is one of the main causes of mortality worldwide, classically associated
with smoking, the data indicate its important relationship with the inhalation of biomass combustion products, in the context
of rural populations with limited access to clean energy, cooking becomes a risk factor for non-communicable diseases such
as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Objective:To propose chronic obstructive pulmonary disease due to biomass
smoke in the rural context as a highly complex problem which requires a transdisciplinary approach that allows generating
solutions tailored to the needs of this population.
Conclusions: The transdisciplinary approach offers a valid and unexplored
alternative to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease research.
