ABSTRACT
Cryptosporidiosis is a parasitic infection caused by the protozoan
Cryptosporidium spp. of the phylum Apicomplexa.
It is a common opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients mainly in acquired immunodeficiency
syndrome (AIDS), which is the most common immunodeficiency; although it also occurs in pediatric
immunocompetent patients. Pulmonary cryptosporidiosis is a rare extraintestinal presentation, it presents clinically
with productive cough, dyspnea, fever and anorexia. We describe the clinical case of a 38 years old man with
intestinal and pulmonary cryptosporidiosis and newly diagnosed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
Literature review on pulmonary cryptosporidiosis was performed.
