Hydration plan, effect on urinary density and Aerobic Capacity in a women's soccer team

ABSTRACT
Introduction: During physical exercise, the loss of water occurs in the intracellular space, through sweat and urine and with this, dehydration occurs. Dehydration generates different physiological changes in the body, and depending on its degree, physical performance can be affected well, including the decrease of aerobic capacity in athletes.
Material and methods: This was randomized, single-blind clinical trial study. The purpose was to evaluate the effect of a personalized hydration guide on aerobic capacity in the Club Leon women's team.
Results: Twenty three players between 14 and 27 years old participated, 12 were in the group with personalized hydration (PH) and 11 in the other group with conventional hydration (CH). The group with PH was given a personalized hydration guide during training, in addition to a rehydrating drink during training. In the group with CH there was no personalized hydration guide, and the participants drank plain water (ad libitum). In both groups, the maximum oxygen consumption (VO
2 max) was evaluated by the "Coursse Navette" test, at the beginning and at the end of the study. The hydration status was also determined before training, using the specific gravity of urine, and after the training, the hydration status was evaluated, through the variation of percentage loss of weight. All the tests were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the study. The aerobic capacity increased significantly in the group with PH with a value of p < 0.001). The hydration status before their training improved significantly in the group with PH (p < 0.005). After-training hydration status improved significantly in both groups (p < 0.02) in the group with PH and p < 0.05 in the group with CH.
Conclusion: A personalized hydration guide can improve aerobic capacity. The hydration status of the participants before and after training condition was significantly improved.
