ABSTRACT
Background: Sarcomas are malignant neoplasms originated from mesenchymal
cells that can arise in any anatomical location; its presentation on the head and neck
corresponds to less than 1% of malignant neoplasms in this region.
Clinical case: A 77-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of primary laryngeal
osteosarcoma treated in conjunction with the oncology service at Hospital Central Sur
de Alta Especialidad PEMEX, Mexico.
Conclusions: Osteosarcomas of the larynx are extremely rare with an incidence
in this location of 0.3-1%, they are considered malignant given their high local recurrence
rate of up to 60% and usually cause death in less than 2 years due to extensive
local disease or lung metastasis.
