ABSTRACT
The balloon angioplasty of peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis has a success rate of 50-60%. With the introduction of high pressure balloons, the results of balloon pulmonary angioplasty have improved significantly (75%). Stent implantation has increased the success rate to over 90%. We review the use of stents in the right heart and pulmonary arteries. We mention the problems and complications. We analize our experience with the method and the papers of the literature. We conclude that after 10 years experience, the stent implantation demonstrate its usefulness to treat stenosis of the right heart and peripheral pulmonary arteries. Stents reduce the acute complication rate and avoid reoperation in this patient group.
