ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the seroprevalence of
Trypanosoma cruzi in the blood banks of
the Western area of Mexico City.
Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study done from September
2017 to September 2018, in which the sera of individuals were analyzed using
an ELISA commercial kit (with non-endemic strain antigens). These positive sera were
studied with an ELISA homemade essay, and a Western Blot test (with endemic strain
parasites). Moreover, the donators medical records were studied.
Results: There were obtained 512 sera from donators to the blood bank; 22% of those
positive by commercial test were women. The mean age was 35 years; the age limits
were 18 and 65 years. The different tests showed seroprevalence of 1.4%.
Conclusions: There is Chagas disease in a free vector area.
