ABSTRACT
Chronical vesical urinary sthasis can cause the formation of giant bladder stones. The aims of this article are to
describe a case of giant bladder stone and to review literature on the topic. 61 years old, male patient who attended
to the hospital after presenting repeated urinary infections. In the physical examination, genitalia were normal and
the prostate was of normal size and consistency. Urethral exploring showed bulbar narrowness. The urine culture
isolated Escherichia coli and the abdominal ultrasound showed two stones in the right kidney, bladder with swelled
walls and with 10 cm diameter lithiasis. Conventional cystolithotomy was conducted and it evolved satisfactorily.
The patient is currently being prepared for right pielolithotomy and later for an uretoplasty with oral mucus. The
formation of giant vesical stones is favored by the chronic urinary infections caused by the urethral narrowness.
Conventional cystolithotomy is proper for the extraction of large size vesical lithiasis.
