ABSTRACT
Introduction: Inverted papilloma of the bladder is a benign tumour that occurs more often in adult
patients. The macroscopic haematuria is the most common and relevant symptom. Imaging studies and
cystoscopy are not specific. Its diagnosis of certainty is by histopathology. The treatment of choice is the
endoscopic resection. Follow up is required due to its potential association to the urothelial carcinoma.
Objective: To describe a case with inverted papilloma of the bladder.
Case presentation: Female patient, 27 years old with incidental diagnosis by abdominal ultrasound of
bladder injury. She was treated by transurethral resection after pathologic confirmation of inverted
papilloma.
Conclusions: Inverted papilloma of the bladder is a rare entity that, although it has a benign behaviour,
can be associated with an urothelial carcinoma in a low percentage. Therefore, it requires follow-up with
endoscopy. Transurethral resection is the first therapeutic option.
