ABSTRACT
Introduction: Eosinophilic cystitis is an unusual inflammation of the bladder that can simulate other
entities. The surgical treatment is infrequent and the anesthesiologist must provide care to patients with
this disease.
Objective: To describe the anestesiological handling of a patient that received urgent surgical treatment
due to presenting a subjective tumor syndrome of bladder abscess and that through histological study
confirmed the diagnosis of eosinophilic granuloma.
Clinical case: A 24 years old, female, white skin patient with antimicrobial treatment due to an abdominal
wall´s abscess some days before the consultation. She referred intense pain in the hypogastrium,
accompanied by fever of 38-39 ºC and hematuria. By means of the physical examination and the
complementary tests, it was diagnosed a bladder abscess. With combined anesthesia (general orotracheal
intubation and regional epidural with catheter) is performed the surgery with favourable results. She was
discharged eight days after the surgery.
Conclusions: Eosinophilic cystitis is a rare entity, whose definitive diagnosis is the anatomopathological
study. The use of combined anesthesia (general orotracheal intubation and regional epidural with
catheter) in the anestesiological management of the patient with eosinophilic granuloma allows a
satisfactory surgical treatment.
