ABSTRACT
Introduction: Granulomatous prostatitis is an incidental finding, whose common symptoms include chronic obstructive and irritative urination, fever and shivers. It is not clinically distinguishable from carcinoma in the digital rectal exam. Objective: To describe a case of granulomatous prostatitis with symptoms and signs that are not distinguishable from a prostate adenocarcinoma.
Clinical case: 47 years old masculine patient, white skin, with urinary symptoms. Using the digital rectal examination, it was found an increment of the consistency that was irregular and not painful. The histopathological study showed a chronic inflammatory marked infiltration characterized by the presence of abundant lymphocytes and giant cells in a moderate amount, which is consistent with the diagnosis of granulomatous prostatitis.
Conclusions: Granulomatous prostatitis is an unusual entity, in which it is necessary the histopathological study to perform the definitive diagnosis.
