Frequency of specialized nutritional care for patients diagnosed with cancer

ABSTRACT
Introduction: despite the importance of healthy nutrition for humans, there is still not enough awareness of it in the care of the cancer patient, in an individualized way. Objective: to describe the frequency of specialized nutritional care in patients diagnosed with cancer. Method: a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the first quarter of 2020 with patients diagnosed with cancer in San Cristóbal City, Guatemala, who gave their informed consent. The variables to be studied were operationalized and the information was summarized in absolute and relative frequencies. Results: In the study group the female sex predominated over the male sex. The most frequent locations were the digestive system and the breast. The most affected age group was between 41-50. Just under half received some nutritional information, while 83% were not referred to a nutritionist. Only 30% had a diet prepared by a nutritionist, while 67% were forced to make favorable changes in their diet after illness. Conclusion: a low frequency of specialized nutritional care was found in patients diagnosed with cancer.REFERENCES
