ABSTRACT
The placement of a single dental implant is one of the most challenging procedures for the dentist at the surgical moment because it must imitate the nature of other teeth, since function and aesthetics are its main objective, but in order to comply with these requirements, it is necessary to carry out an adequate treatment plan supported by radiographic and clinical examinations and bear in mind that it is not only necessary to evaluate the tissues in the area where the implant will be placed, but also the surrounding tissues of adjacent teeth to avoid future complications and ensure the treatment long-term success. Currently, new technological advances facilitate the detection of bone pathologies or alterations that may affect the placement or osseointegration of dental implants, creating an opportunity to make a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan and thus be able to correct any alteration that could promote treatment failure. In this case, the presence of a periapical cyst that did not directly interfere with the placement of the dental implant is presented, since it was at the dental organ 2.1 level and the dental implant was placed to substitute the 2.3, however, it was decided to do its removal, since not removing it could increase its size and affect the osseointegration process of the implant in the long term.
