Educational intervention on the rational use of herbal medicines in residents of Baracoa during 2016

ABSTRACT
Introduction: An educational intervention was carried out to raise the level of knowledge about the rational use of medicines in the residents belonging to the Moncada medicine office in the municipality of Baracoa in 2016.Method: From a universe made up of 1120 inhabitants of the area, an intentional sample of 112 inhabitants was selected that met the pre-defined inclusion criteria. The primary data is found in an observation guide and a questionnaire.
Results: Prevailed the consumption very frequently of herbal medicines acquired mainly by self-medication in the group of housewives. The most used sources of information were the non-sanitary routes. The level of knowledge about the species and the adverse reactions was low, which was reversed after the intervention, raising their general knowledge.
Conclusions: It is concluded that it is necessary to apply educational campaigns on phytopharmaceuticals and, to make it in harmony with popular knowledge as a way to preserve the ancestral knowledge of salubrious value.
