ABSTRACT
Introduction: Since the report of cases of pneumonia of unknown origin in Wuhan, China in 2019, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread to practically the whole world, affecting different social groups. It was highlighted that young people and women are less clinically affected by this condition. Objective: To analyze the frequency and lethality of COVID-19 in women under 19 years of age in Mexico. Material and methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, analytical, retrolective study was designed, based on the open data set of the National Epidemiological Surveillance System until March 31, 2021. The study universe was the records of female persons under 19 years of age cataloged as suspects of COVID-19. Statistical analysis was descriptive for all variables. To contrast statistical hypotheses, the χ2 test was used, and the Z test of proportions for categorical variables. To measure the effect of different variables on case fatality, the Odds Ratio was used, reporting them with 95% confidence intervals. A logistic regression model was generated to identify whether age had a confounding effect. Results: Of the women under 19 years of age suspected of COVID-19 (165,860), 48,091 tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Women between 15 and 18 years old predominated. Regarding deaths, deaths in children under two years of age predominated. Most of the people who died were hospitalized and developed pneumonia. Conclusion: As in the general population, comorbidities were shown to influence death from COVID-19. Those under two years of age predominated in terms of deaths.REFERENCES
