ABSTRACT
Introduction. According to the World Health Organization obesity is growing alarmingly because today it is estimated that more than 250 million people are obese in the world, that is, 7% of the adult population. Material and methods. Descriptive observational epidemiological study without directionality and with prospective temporality. 300 patients were studied. The Mantel–Haenszel Chi–Square statistic (x2M–H) was used as a hypothesis test. Results. One hundred and forty–one (82.46%) patients were labeled as positive by either the Gold Standard or the anthropometric index Body Mass Index. One hundred and twenty–three (71.93%) patients were labeled as positive by both the Gold standard test and the Waist/Hip Index. One hundred thirty–eight (80.70%) patients were labeled as positive by both the Gold standard test and the anthropometric index Abdominal Circumference Index. Discussion. Our results were compared with three authors with similar studies without finding a difference between these studies and ours. Conclusions. Based on the results observed, it is concluded that the Body Mass Index is the most appropriate diagnostic test as an indicator of overweight and obesity in adults aged 18–64 years of age and the other gender who attended the "Hospital Integral Jose Maria Morelos" of the Mayan municipality Jose Maria Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico, in the period from August 1, 2017, to July 31, 2018, followed by the Abdominal Circumference Index and the Waist/Hip Index.REFERENCES
