Academic medicine and primary health care. Proposal for a methodological conceptual approach from educational practice

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The educational practices in Academic Medicine of Primary Health Care (PHC) carried out by professors and students in a medical school with studies incorporated into the University of Guadalajara are analyzed.Objective: To provide conceptual and methodological elements to carry out a national study in schools and colleges in Mexico.
Method: An analytical cross-sectional design was applied. The teaching universe is made up of 13 teachers from 8 learning units of the integrating axis of professional practices in PHC and 148 students selected by random numbers from a population of 361, with a degree of confidence of 90%, 5% error and a P of 0.5 calculated with the Epi Info program.
Results: Contradictions are shown in the perception of the epidemiological models of the teachers, where the sociocultural approach and human rights predominate (92%) with the practice spaces where the students attend, which are of the first level of curative care (88%) (P = 0.00) deficiencies in knowledge management based on community practice (100%) and in promoting community participation where a directive model of work in PHC predominates (72%)
Conclusions: There are contradictions between the theoretical model of PHC and the practice scenarios; disintegration of PHC practice with knowledge management and the promotion of community participation; the integrating axis of professional practices in PHC in the curriculum is marginal.
