Quality of Life in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus on Insulin Therapy

ABSTRACT

Objective: to evaluate the quality of life in patients type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with insulin in a Primary Care Unit in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Methods: analytical cross-sectional study, conducted from June to August 2019. 127 patients were selected with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with insulin, to whom the Diabetes-39 instrument was applied to assess quality of life. Descriptive statistics were performed and Pearson’s χ2 test was used for inferential analysis. Results: of the 127 evaluated patients, 80% presented good quality of life and 20% had a poor quality of life. Better quality of life was observed in patients treated with nph insulin (Neutral Protamine Hagedorn). Conclusion: the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with insulin is mostly good. The prescription of insulin not only improves metabolic control but also brings with it a good quality of life.
