ABSTRACT
A community study in Coapeche, Veracruz was performed to identify carriers of intestinal parasitosis and to treat those carriers with anti-parasitic medications. An initial survey was undertaken to gather basic information and identify risk-factors. Fecal samples were taken and analyzed by simple coproparasitoscopic tests. Giardia was detected in 11% of samples and Ascaris in 9% of samples analyzed. Those patients testing positive were treated with albendazol. This study was performed following field experience as part of the 2nd Diploma-conferring Latin American Course on Medical Parasitology organized by the Faculty of Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico during the summer of 1997.REFERENCES
