ABSTRACT
Objective: To retrospectively analyze the experience in ankyloglossia, the healthcare professionals who refer most frequently, diagnosis age, most frequent tie-tongue type, and surgical technique.
Material and methods: Information was collected from clinical records of patient diagnosed with ankyloglossia. A retrospective analysis of the data obtained was carried out.
Results: 207 cases were registered, within which a few variables were analyzed (gender, age, referring healthcare professional, morbid history, tied-tongue type, surgical technique, relapse, and year). Every patient was assessed and treated by the same surgeon.
Conclusion: Correct and early diagnosis and treatment are essential to avoid many consequences like tongue movement's restriction, mandibular development deterioration and alterations in phonoarticulation.
