Women in neurosciences. The vision of the first woman president of the SMNP

ABSTRACT
Participation of women in Medicine initiated late. The first woman graduated as physician in Mexico was Matilde Montoya in 1897. Since then, female population in the carree has been growing but it do not reaches 50% instead of among general population in México 51.3% are women. In the field of neuroscience female presences is predominant in Psychology and Neuropsychology, rather good in Basic neuroscience, but in Adult Neurology there are 283 women and 744 men; in Neurophysiology; in Pediatric Neurology 244 are women and 262 men; in Psychiatry 1,520 women and 2,873 men. About organization and authority positions there are 5 female chiefs and 16 male chiefs; in the National Academy of Medicine only one woman has been presidente and only two in the Mexican Academy of Neurology, the Mexican Board of Neurology and in the Mexican Society of Neurology and Psychiatry. Female participation has been growing, but it is far to achieve an equality.REFERENCES
