Leprosy disabled patient with bone resorption

ABSTRACT
Leprosy or Hansen's disease is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium mycobacterium leprae (acid-fast bacillus) that affects, especially, the peripheral nervous system and the skin. In addition, it produces significant disabilities due to bone resorption of terminal phalanges and mutilations. The objective of this article is to present images of bone resorption in a patient with leprosy. Images of upper and lower limb bone resorption were shown in a person with a disability from leprosy. The patient was treated at Guillermo Fernández Hernández-Baquero specialized dermatological hospital in Rincón, in Havana.In clinical practice, bone resorption constitutes one of the complications of leprosy that produces higher degree of disability and, therefore, requires the evaluation of a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
