ABSTRACT
SARS-CoV-2 infection causing COVID-19 disease is a pandemic for which there are currently no specific vaccines or pharmaceutical treatments available. Ozone therapy has been proposed to treat this disease. The literature available from 2000 to 2020 was reviewed, with the aim of identifying preclinical and clinical reviews and studies that provide information on the biological and therapeutic effects of systemic administration of ozone by enteral rectal insufflation, which could be useful in the different phases, stages and degrees of severity of this disease, as well as in the prevention and rehabilitation of possible sequelae. The Google Academic search engine was used and articles from the PubMed and SciELO databases of the Virtual Health Library were consulted. Information was found that indicates that the rectal application of ozone has biological and therapeutic actions that could be useful to treat COVID-19 in two clinical phases, in the degrees of mild, moderate and severe severity. As well as for the prevention and rehabilitation of possible sequels. It could also be used to treat patients with high risk factors who are exposed to this infection.
