ABSTRACT
The self-injuries are wounds of the tissues caused consciously and deliberately in the body itself with the purpose of modifying the mood, without suicidal purpose. It is an addictive behavior of a socially unacceptable impulsive nature. It is observed more in women and young adolescents. Potential risk factors are the history of child abuse and unfavorable family conditions. It certainly requires an interdisciplinary professional medical approach.
