ABSTRACT
The recent COVID-19 has had an impact on the lifestyle
of everyone. Initially, health care system prioritized the
pulmonary distress as the key feature of the pandemic,
being the highest mortality indicator. However, we know
today the multiple repercussions found on various organs
and systems, including the Central Nervous System. We
are addressing neuropsychiatric symptoms both during
acute and recovery phase of COVID-19.
Inflammatory distress on the Central Nervous System
caused due to cytokines would explain the establishment
of both functional and structural damage and the
subsequent development of neuropsychiatric symptoms;
likewise, this inflammatory process is similar to the one
seen on other primary psychiatric disorders.
There have been several clinical trials that have
documented the presence of depression, anxiety, posttraumatic
stress disorder, delirium, psychosis and
neurocognitive disorders on patients with COVID-19,
both during acute and recovery phase. Being aware of
this outcome will be useful on managing these disorders
and possibly prevent the aft ermath on patients during the
recovery phase of COVID-19.
The present article is an attempt on providing a broader
overview on the neuropsychiatric complications on
patients with COVID-19 found across various studies
conducted worldwide.
