ABSTRACT
Background: Carcinomas with neuroendocrine differentiation are tumors that
occur extraordinarily in the nose and sinuses, representing only 5% of all sinonasal
malignancies. They are considered primitive tumors and are the least differentiated of
the diffuse neuroendocrine system. These types of tumors are a diagnostic challenge
due to their complexity to differentiate them in a histopathological study. Likewise,
there are no clear available guidelines, and the result of treatment continues to be
variable and poor.
Clinical case: A 49-year-old female patient diagnosed with moderately differentiated
neuroendocrine carcinoma successfully managed by total resection with an endoscopic
endonasal approach.
Conclusions: The effective differentiation of these tumors can have a clinical impact,
so advances in therapeutic intervention could prolong patient survival, improve quality
of life and even achieve a cure.
