ABSTRACT
Phytostimulines or biostimulines of vegetal origin obtained by extractive processes of gramineae (mainly
Triticum vulgare or wheat), stimulates fibroblasts mRNA and DNA synthesis, thus enhancing tissue reparative processes. Chronic cervicitis is characterized by diffuse collections of chronic inflammatory cells in the subepithelial stroma and proliferation of the fibrous connective tissue in the cervical stroma. This results in hypertrophy and elongation of the cervix. A double blind clinical trial on 40 patients with erosive chronic cervicitis was carried out: 20 patients received vaginal cream of watery extract of
Triticum vulgare, twice a day during 14 days, and placebo the 20 remaining patients. Once the therapy began, leukorrhea was diminished both in quantity and percentage of patients with the symptom (16.7%
vs 42.1% respectively in the groups). The size of the lesion was significant reduced and total reephitelization ocurred since the 16th day. At 48th day, 77.8% of
Triticum vulgare-treated patients presented a total reephitelization
versus 47.4% with placebo. One case with hypersensibilization probably related to the drug was observed, but also one case in the placebo group showed severe inflammation. It is concluded that the watery extract of
Triticum vulgare is a usefull topical drug on the erosive chronic cervicitis, that hastens the reepithelization of cervix.
