ABSTRACT
Inflammation role in atherosclerosis has been well established during the past decade. From a pathological perspective, atherosclerosis may be regarded as an inflammatory response to damage. Risk factors promote monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells and its migration in the subintimal space. Lipoproteins oxidation and release of other substances from activated macrophages may break collagen strands and may lead to plaque rupture.
