ABSTRACT
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry defines dental neglect as "deliberate inability on the part of parents or guardians to request and continue treatment necessary to ensure adequate oral health, free from pain and infection."
Objective: To know the ailments that occur during the growth, physical, emotional and cognitive development of a 3-year-old patient with poor oral health due to her parents' negligence.
Case Description: Patient attending the Postgraduate Clinic in Pediatric Stomatology, accompanied by his mother and maternal grandmother, because "his teeth hurt and bleed gums". Oral examination reveals root rests and carious lesions of third and fourth degree, with poor oral hygiene.
Conclusion: Dental care was overlooked by parents, resulting in a prolonged history of recurrent dental abscesses, premature dental loss, enamel hypomineralization and extensive carious lesions.
