Frecuencia de trastornos temporomandibulares en niños de la Clínica de Odontología Infantil de la Facultad de Odontología Unidad Torreón de la Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila

ABSTRACT
The present study aimed to determine the frequency of temporomandibular disorders, to assess the presence of parafunctional habits and chromium steel crowns related to temporomandibular disorders in the pediatric patients of the postdoctoral clinic of child dentistry of UAdeC.
Materials and methods. - Transversal, descriptive and exploratory observational study. The study universe was 2877 active patients aged 4-12 years during the year 2015, the sample size being determined for proportions of 61 patients. A clinical history, evaluation and registry of clinical signs and symptoms typical of the temporomandibular disorders present in these patients were performed. For the analysis of results, the database of the statistical package IBM
® SPSS
® Statistics v24.0 was used. In Spanish.
Results. - A frequency of temporomandibular disorders of 62.29% was reported, with a higher frequency in the male gender representing 52.63%. In relation to TTM with the presence of parafunctional habits was significantly high of 78.95%; however, there was a rare occurrence of TTM in relation to the presence of steel-chromium crowns with 15.79%. In this study, we observed a high frequency of temporomandibular disorders in children and an increase in the frequency associated with the presence of parafunctional habits.
