ABSTRACT
Alexander Von Lichtemberg was born in Budapest on January 20, 1880 and completed his schooling and medical studies there in 1902. Here Lichtemberg’s academic career starter with that of two outstanding collaborators Friedrich Voelcker and Eugen Joseph. They worked together to develop the indigo carmine test with they called chromocytoscopy. In 1905 the first attempts to produce kidney X-rays began. For the purpose of retrograde demonstration they used collargol and obtained excellent result with it.In 1929, Von Lichtemberg announced the successful development and use of intravenous contrast medium for demonstration of the kidneys. He interpreted the early results correctly and successfully introduced the new method into clinical use. In 1939 he moved in exile to Mexico. He started his urologic service at the Hospital Londres and later at the Sanatorio Ortiz Tirado. After several years he moved to the Sanatorio Durango where he worked up to time of this death. Dr. Alexander Von Lichtemberg died on April 12, 1949.
