ABSTRACT
It is well documented that the treatment of some cardiovascular diseases is carried out with drugs whose mechanism of action is based on the blockage of calcium channels; This group of drugs, especially nifedipine, has been shown to have a direct relationship with the development of a periodontal condition known as gingival hyperplasia. This clinical condition can compromise the function, aesthetics and hygiene of this type of patient. This report documents the clinical and histopathological diagnosis and the conventional treatment that was given to a patient who has been pharmacological for more than 30 years, managing to restore the physiological periodontal conditions of the patient and her hygiene control after treatment.
