ABSTRACT
Stability of dried blood samples on filter paper for the detection of HBsAg, stored at different conditions, was assessed. Drops from three samples with different concentrations of HBsAg were spotted on filter paper Schleicher and Schuell 903 (S&S 903), dried for 24 hours at 15°C and 55 % of relative humidity, or at 20°C and 89 % of relative humidity. The dried blood samples were stored in paper envelopes at four different temperatures: -20°C, 4°C, 20-25°C and 36°C and they were tested by UMELISA HBsAg PLUS from 0 to 180 days after preparation.
Driedsamples at 15°C and 55 % of relative humidity could be stored during five months at 4ºC and –20°C, two months at 20-25 °C relative humidity and one month at 36°C. Driedsamples at 20°C and 89 % of relative humidity could be stored for five months at 4°C and –20°C. Samples became completely negative for HBsAg after three months when stored at 20-25°C and 36°C.
