Complete myocardial revascularization without extracorporeal circulation with internal mammary arteries

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Coronary artery disease is the most frequent cardiac pathology and more and more patients require a surgical procedure to revascularize the myocardium. Objectives: To verify the benefits of complete myocardial revascularization surgery without extracorporeal circulation with internal mammary arteries in terms of hospital morbidity and mortality. Method: Analytical and prospective study, in patients who consecutively required myocardial revascularization surgery, from May 2018 - September 2019, at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery. Results: High blood pressure, smoking, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia were the most frequent risk factors. Three or more risk factors were present in 93.8% of the patients. The incidence of mortality (2.5%) was low, with a survival free of adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events greater than 96%. The occurrence of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events was related to 30-day mortality. Conclusions: Complete myocardial revascularization surgery without extracorporeal circulation, exclusively with internal mammary arteries, in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease, can be performed with a low incidence of morbidity and mortality at 30 days. A relationship was found between the occurrence of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events and hospital mortality.REFERENCES
