Knowledge of the population of a Doctor´s Office about COVID- 19

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The current pandemic called COVID 19 constitutes a challenge for the sanitary systems of the world. Knowledge about essential aspects of the disease could contribute to its control.Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge of the population about COVID-19.
Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out at Doctor´s Office # 5 ¨Luis Li Trigent¨ University policlinic July, 2020. The universe was formed by 388 patients of 50 years old and more. 99 patients were selected in a non-probabilistic sample. Participants were grouped according to age, sex and scholarship, a survey was applied composed by five questions of knowledge about COVID 19, ways of transmission, prevention measures, and clinical manifestations vulnerable groups. For the statistical analysis of the data the X2 docima was used. The Duncan Test of multiple comparison was applied when there were significant differences. The descriptive and inferential, media and standard deviation statistics were determined.
Results: The general sufficient knowledge (87.9 %), ages between 50 and 64 years old (55.6 %), female sex (67.9 %) and secondary scholarship (35.4), prevailed. The level of knowledge was independent to the analyzed variables. The level of knowledge by evaluated themes was satisfactory with higher average marks for prevention measures in a 9.34 and the vulnerable groups a 9.11.
Conclusions: The population presents a good level of knowledge about COVID 19.
