ABSTRACT
Introduction: Sepsis is one of the main causes of mortality in Intensive Care Units. Objective: To identify the prognostic factors of mortality in ventilated patients for sepsis.
Methods: An observational, analytic, prospective and cross-sectional study was carried out from January 1st, 2018 to November 30, 2019, in the Intensive Care Unit at Teaching Clinical Surgical ¨Aleida Fernández Chardiet¨ Hospital. The universe was formed by 109 patients. Taking into account the statistical analysis, the quantitative variables were expressed as media and the qualitative variables as absolute and percentage.
Results: The 33.9 % of the admitted patients died, age of 56.9 ± 17.4, the 90.8 % was of medical type; the lung was the primary focus, 80.6 %. In the bivariate analysis it was observed that in the deceased figures of temperature and the leucocyte count leucocytes were higher, arterial pH, cholesterol and seric albumin were lower. The multivariate analysis determined that the variables of mortality were: age ≥65 years old, glycemia ≥ 9 mmol/L; creatinine ≥184 mmol/L, cholesterol ≤3.5 mmol/L and albumin ≤30 g/L. Hosmer-Lemeshow indicated an excellent calibration of the model (p=0.605) with a low curve area of 0.880 (IC 95 %, 0.818-0.942, p<0.001).
Conclusions: The function obtained by age, show an excellent capacity to predict mortality, in ventilated patients for sepsis.
