ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate through SNOT-22 the clinical improvement after nasosinusal endoscopic
surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyposis.
Materials and Methods: Analytical, observational, cross-sectional and prospective
cohort study was done including patients who were diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis
with and without nasal polyps from the otorhinolaryngology outpatient clinic and who
underwent surgery during the period from August to December 2019. The validated
SNOT-22 questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life of these patients pre and
postintervention. For data analysis, a descriptive analysis was performed for quantitative
variables; as well as Fisher, paired and unpaired t tests to evaluate the associations
between age, sex, smoking and cortocosteroids.
Results: The total score on the SNOT-22 was significantly higher in the preoperative
period (70.89) as opposed to the postoperative period (36.64; p ‹ 0.0001).
Conclusions: Endoscopic sinus surgery effectively improved the quality of life of
patients with chronic rhinosinusitis in both study groups. Furthermore, an association
was found between age and SNOT-22 score both before and after the intervention,
which is consistent with other published studies.
