La bioética en la toma de decisiones médicas en niños hospitalizados

RESUMEN

La intervención médica para rescatar de la muerte a los niños enfermos, que tiempo atrás fallecían a pesar de ella, exige hoy que los pediatras y los familiares se hagan preguntas morales acerca de las decisiones que toman. La sociedad misma debe analizar, para normar las decisiones, la pertinencia de extender la vida de algunos niños, sobre todo recién nacidos e infantes con padecimientos severos. A este respecto, la Academia Americana de Pediatría (AAP) se ha pronunciado en apoyo a las decisiones para mantener la vida a todos los niños, sin importar la edad.
