Quistes hepáticos no parasitarios

RESUMEN
Propósito: Efectuar una revisión bibliográfica de los principales aspectos epidemiológicos, fisiopatogénicos, cuadro clínico, diagnóstico y tratamiento de los quistes hepáticos no parasitarios.
Obtención de los datos: Revisión de la literatura internacional en idioma inglés (78 citas seleccionadas) y libros médicos relacionados (13 referencias).
Selección de estudios: Se seleccionaron los artículos biomédicos más relevantes alusivos a quistes hepáticos no parasitarios (78 citas internacionales) y libros médicos al respecto (11 referencias en español y 2 en inglés).
Extracción de datos: Se realizó una revisión de la literatura de 1965 a 2001 de los trabajos de investigación de corte clínico-epidemiológico, imagenología y terapéutica de la entidad. Se utilizó la base de datos de MEDLINE para la localización y selección de artículos. Se consultaron libros de perfil médico-quirúrgico, enfermedades del hígado y ciencias básicas.
Resultados de la síntesis de datos: Se ha considerado que los quistes hepáticos solitarios y la enfermedad poliquística hepática son diferentes manifestaciones del mismo proceso. Raramente son diagnosticados clínicamente, empero su identificación se ha incrementado con el uso sistemático de la imagenología. La cirugía se indica en pacientes altamente sintomáticos o cuando surgen complicaciones. Son posibles la comunicación biliar del quiste y su transformación neoplásica.
Conclusión: La incidencia de esta entidad es indudablemente más alta de lo publicado. La revisión bibliográfica demostró la necesidad de una valoración quirúrgica integral, requiriendo un adecuado reconocimiento del tipo de quiste, localización y relaciones anatómicas precisas, con objeto de establecer el tratamiento apropiado.
