Inflamación y resistencia a la insulina: Mecanismos para el desarrollo de la disfunción endotelial y aterosclerosis

RESUMEN
Se ha observado una correlación positiva entre la presencia de resistencia a la insulina y niveles elevados de marcadores inflamatorios (entre ellos la proteína C reactiva de alta sensibilidad), ambos factores, tal como lo demuestran las evidencias, están asociados con un incremento en el riesgo para el desarrollo de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 y enfermedad cardiovascular. Se analiza y discute el papel de la inflamación y la resistencia a la insulina como marcadores para el desarrollo de la disfunción endotelial y ateroesclerosis y su interrelación con los procesos metabólicos (teoría del sobre-flujo y teoría portal). La aplicación de estos conocimientos permite tener una visión general sobre el desarrollo del “mecanismo antiinflamatorio de diversos medicamentos”.
