Apego a la lactancia materna y factores que influyen en el abandono de la misma en la medicina privada

RESUMEN
Introducción: La lactancia tiene múltiples beneficios para el bebé y la madre. Se han identificado algunos factores que intervienen en el apego a la lactancia materna, tales como escolaridad, ocupación y edad materna, vía de nacimiento, la información recibida antes, durante y después del nacimiento, entre otros.
Objetivo: Describir qué factores influyen en el apego a la lactancia materna en la medicina privada.
Material y métodos: Se realizó un cuestionario vía telefónica o presencial a 295 madres de pacientes atendidos en el consultorio 755 del Hospital Ángeles Pedregal. Se calcularon medidas de dispersión y tendencia central. Se realizó χ
2 y prueba de Kruskal Wallis.
Resultados: La media de duración de la lactancia fue 6.1 meses. La razón de abandono más frecuente fue trabajo-escuela. Se encontró asociación entre lactancia materna y escolaridad, trabajo de tiempo completo, embarazos de término, vía de nacimiento y embarazos únicos. La asociación entre lactancia y la información durante el embarazo y la hospitalización fue significativa.
Conclusiones: El apego a la lactancia en esta población es mayor a la media nacional, aunque menor en duración. La principal razón para el abandono fue trabajo-escuela. La información antenatal recibida y la hospitalización influyen en el apego a la lactancia.
