Pacientes como profesores en la escuela de medicina

RESUMEN
En el encuentro clínico se reúnen dos expertos, el médico y el paciente, pero la educación médica centrada en la
enfermedad-patología no enseña a escuchar la narrativa de los pacientes como personas y su experiencia con la
enfermedad. En el proceso la empatía de los estudiantes se deteriora. El propósito de este trabajo fue explorar las
reacciones de los estudiantes al escuchar la narrativa de pacientes reales en un ambiente emocionalmente protegido. El
proyecto inició en 2015 exponiendo a los estudiantes a cortos de cine sobre relaciones médico-paciente, música y
exposiciones cortas sobre neurociencia de la emoción. En 2017, se sumó la exposición a pacientes reales que narraron
su experiencia del padecer en talleres de cinco horas diarias durante cinco días. El estudio mostró que los estudiantes
desarrollaron capacidad para la escucha plena, la autoreflexión, el autoconocimiento, y la identificación con la profesión,
además de auto-percibirse con empatía renovada.
