Prevalencia de alteraciones dentales en adolescentes de Valle de Chalco, Estado de México, México

RESUMEN
Objetivo: Evaluar la distribución y frecuencia de alteraciones dentales de color, estructura, tamaño, forma y número, así como su posible dependencia con la edad y el género.
Material y métodos: Se llevó a cabo un estudio epidemiológico descriptivo y transversal. Se levantó el Índice DDE modificado de Clarkson y O´Mullane, así mismo, se realizó la exploración bucal para el diagnóstico de otro tipo de alteraciones dentales, previa calibración de examinador (C
r= 92%, C
a= 94%, kappa = 0.92).
Resultados: La tasa general de prevalencia por
alteraciones dentales fue de 92:100 adolescentes, y la estimada entre 89% y 94% (IC
95%: 0 .89 ≤ π ≤ 0.94). Considerando el total de dientes examinados, la tasa general fue de 43:100 dientes y su distribución proporcional estimada osciló entre 41% y 43% (IC
95%: 0.4185 ≤ π ≤ 0.4329). Las alteraciones de color y forma fueron las más frecuentes; 81.84% y 65.88% respectivamente. No existió significancia estadística con el género (χ
2 Y = 0.9151, p = 0.3435), no así por edad (χ
2 = 11.1646, ρ = 0.0114).
Conclusiones: La prevalencia por lo general fue mayor en la mayoría de los casos en comparación con lo observado con otras poblaciones, además se confirmó el carácter étnico de algunos rasgos dentales. La dependencia con la edad probablemente obedeció al tiempo de exposición al riesgo y no a la edad cronológica en sí.
